An unusual miniature portrait, done by firing enamel on glass. This combination of subject matter, style, medium, and technique is quite rare for this period and area. The sitter is a quite handsome man in a black coat with a white shirt, vest and tie. He is posed on a red chair in front of a drapery done in hues shading from red to orange. In the center left is a window view of hills, a river and two ships.

The frame is original, and bears the label of F.A. Wenderoth of Phila. Since Wenderoth was a framer as well as an artist, it is difficult to tell if this was painted by him since examples of his work are almost non-existent. Sight size is 3 1/2" by 2 3/4'. Framed size is 11 3/4" by 10 3/4". The frame has chips to the corners and overall wear. The condition of the painting itself is excellent, with no issues. Colors are deep, bold, and striking.
