A charming watercolor on paper painting depicting a young woman holding a note or book in her lap while her pet dog begs for attention. The dress, feathered hat, and hairdo, as well as the construction style of the house show this to be a woman of means, as well as placing this work in the 1800-1803 time period. This is likely a schoolgirl painting, done in freestyle rather than the more common stenciling. Presented in a period giltwood frame.

There are no folds or creases in this example. The colors are good and clear, with no paint loss, scrapes, or restoration. Although there are a few very minor non-separated tears emanating from the edges they are of no import and do not extend into the body of the painting. The sight size is 10" by 8", and the framed size is 13 1/2" by 11 1/2".
