A truly lovely and engaging portrait miniature, on natural wafer, of a beautiful young woman. The subject, attired in a green velvet dress with a black cape and a white fichu, is seated in front of an orange drapery with a view of a landscape. The framing of this gem is of fine construction, with an inner gold plated frame that is easily removable (and replaced) if a smaller overall size is desired. Both frames are in very fine order.

The subject, attired in a green velvet dress with a black cape and a white fichu, is seated in front of an orange drapery with a view of a landscape. The framing of this gem is of fine construction, with an inner gold plated frame that is easily removable (and replaced) if a smaller overall size is desired. Both frames are in very fine order.
The condition of the painting is excellent, with bright colors and sharpness, and with no chips, cracks, or bowing. The whitish areas in the cape depend on how the light strikes the painting, and were intentionally done by the artist layering the black paint to show the texture of velvet. In person the painting is much finer than the photos show. On the far left there was a slight correction to the surface texture in the background where the clouds meet the sky. This is really of little impact to the aesthetic appearance or value of the piece. The sight size of the painting is 4 1/8" by 3 3/4". The size of the inner frame is 5" by 4 1/2", while the fully framed size is 7 3/4" by 7 1/4".
